Sailing Yacht Bagheera

Revealing new renderings and details of the 24-meter sailing yacht, Bagheera. S/Y Bagheera will rewrite the rules for performance cruising sailing yachts.

Inspired by the black cat Bagheera, the exterior features all black carbon fiber accented with a warm canary yellow below the water line. The smooth teak covered deck features a seamless transition from bow to stern. The exterior redefines the idea of minimalistic design. Her detailed flush deck and overall lines keep the profile as low and sleek as possible.

Designed for a professional sailor who plans to live on-board full time with his dog and girlfriend. Between races, she will be moored near Marbella, Spain. Constructed out of Carbon Fiber, Bagheera is built to quickly and efficiently sail across the ocean, while still maintaining comfort on-board. At 80-feet long, she has a highly engineered hull and fixed keel to ensure maximum speed for racing, while maintaining stability across a variety of sea conditions.

The yacht has a max beam of 6 meters. Her deck layout was purposely configured for guest use and ease of sail handling. Featuring a large main cockpit with built-in lounge seating and a full collapsible large al fresco dining table. There is also a sunbathing area on the forward deck.

The standing rig has been designed and specified for a single user, as the owner will primarily be sailing on-board by himself. Universail worked closely with Harken to develop a custom rig solution specifically for S/Y Bagheera and her owner. The custom Harken rig finishes each of the sheets and halyards in the cockpit, which allows her sailor to handle the vessel alone. We also partnered with North Sails to design the yacht’s sails, with a total sail area of 334-square meters upwind.

The 33 GT sailing yacht is powered by a single 240 HP Yanmar 4LHA-STP 4-stroke engine. Universail has fitted the Transfliud Hybrid System HM2000 to the engine for the option to run the yacht on electric power when possible. Universail wanted to develop a yacht to emit the minimum amount of emissions as possible, while still maintaining performance.

Interior Details

Aiming to redefine the traditional sailing yacht to be suitable for both cruising and long-term comfort, there are three different interior layout options available. The client-specific general arrangement features three guest cabins with en-suite facilities, including two optional owners cabin configurations. There is also an optional refit plan for future buyers who seek a more traditional layout, including designated crew quarters.

The interior can be described as minimalistic and warm contemporary, using textured leather panels, neutral fabrics, and honed white solid surfaces to create a cozy atmosphere. The woodwork onboard is a warm ash oak, featuring black carbon fiber inserts. Innovation within the modern interior allows for the yacht to be extremely spacious and luxurious. The end result, a lightweight, high quality sailing yacht, offering flexibility and comfort for her owner and his guests on-board.

Other key features on-board this Universail sailing yacht include a full beam cinema with a separate entrance at the stern, which can also double as a fourth guest cabin when necessary. This flex space is the first of its kind in the industry in this size range, setting S/Y Bagheera in front of all other fast cruising vessels. The interior has floor level changes between the main living space, the living quarters and the cinema. This allows for an open-plan interior, while still differentiating between space functions. Bi-level sight-lines and long sweeping windows add a distinctive touch to the yacht.
